      Kay Redfield Jamison is the best-selling author of An Unquiet Mind who gave us a groundbreaking life of one of the major American poets of the twentieth century, Robert Lowell. In this conversation with filmmaker Alan Gilsenan, she will explore the relationship between manic-depressive (bi-polar) illness, creative genius, and character.    Kay Redfield Jamison is the Dalio Professor in Mood Disorders and Professor of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, as well as an honorary professor of English at the University of St. Andrews. She is the author of An Unquiet Mind, Touched With Fire, and Night Falls Fast and the co-author of the standard medical text on bipolar disorder. She is a recipient of a MacArthur Award; her most recent book, Robert Lowell : Setting the River on Fire, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for biography in 2018. Alan Gilsenan is an award-winning Irish film-maker, writer and theatre director. His widely diverse body of film work extends across documentary, feature films and experimental work. Recent films - which he wrote and directed - include the feature film Unless, with Catherine Keener in the lead role and based upon the final novel of Carol Shields. His theatre work includes his own adaptation of John Banville’s The Book of Evidence at the Kilkenny Festival and Dublin’s Gate Theatre; Samuel Beckett’s Footfalls at the Gate Theatre and London’s Barbican Centre and more.
